Manpower Statistics (January - December 2007)

As of 31 March 2008, SPF has an operationally ready strength of 13,281 full-time officers. This comprises 7,793 regular officers, 1,221 civilian officers, and 4,267 fulltime Police National Servicemen (PNSF) dedicated to keeping Singapore safe and secured. In addition, a total of 20,217 Police National Servicemen (PNSmen) and 1,015 Volunteer Special Constabulary Officers also contribute towards ensuring the nation’s safety and security.

 

Service Improvement Unit Report on Public Feedback (January - December 2007)

The Service Improvement Unit (SIU) serves as one of the various contact points for the members of public to provide their feedback. In 2007, the SIU handled 4,669 cases of public feedback. Despite a high volume of cases, SIU was able to respond to all public feedback within five working days.

Trends

The number of cases handled by SIU increased significantly from 544 cases in 1995 to 4,669 cases in 2007. There was an increase in the number of feedback while the number of compliments, complaints, enquiries, requests and suggestions decreased as compared to the preceding year. The number of cases handled by SIU from 1995–2007 is shown in Figure 1.

Compliments

In 2007, SIU received 216 compliments, which was a slight decrease of 12.55% compared to 2006. The compliments received were mainly for:
a) Services rendered
b) Good service attitudes shown such as politeness and empathy

Feedback

SIU received a total of 1,571 feedback cases in 2007, an increase of 25.18% as compared to 2006. The common types of feedback received included:
a) Information on scam emails
b) Police initiatives or policies such as pilot project on cycling on footpaths

Complaints

The number of complaints dropped 10.96% to 260 cases in 2007. Complaints were typically about officers’ professionalism and attitude. The common complaints included:
a) Late response of police at the scene of incident
b) Officers perceived as being unhelpful/ rude

Enquiries

In 2007, SIU saw a decrease of 22.85% in the number of enquiries received, to 1,023 cases as compared to 2006. Enquiries were frequently related to:
a) Licensing matters
b) Police procedures
c) Recruitment issues

Requests

In 2007, 1,572 cases of requests were handled by SIU. The common requests received were for:
a) Police assistance to deal with noise disturbances and frequent patrols
b) Traffic-related issues such as requests for enforcement action on illegal parking

Suggestions

SIU received a total of 27 suggestions from the public, a decrease of 67.08%. The common suggestions received were:
a) Crime prevention measures
b) Enhancement to the Handphone IMEI Tracing System (HITS)
c) Contact Police through the emergency Short Messaging Service (SMS) 70999 for the deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech-impaired community

Conclusion

SPF values feedback from the public which provides useful customer insights for our continuous improvement. We strive to deliver quality services and strengthen our partnership with the community through interaction with the public via the public feedback channels.
