Remember Station Inspector Mohd Slamat? The Deputy Officer-in-Charge (DOC) Training of ‘G’ Division, he was crowned the first Singapore Police Force (SPF) Service Idol last year. What does Service really mean to him? Simply Service finds out.
1. How many years have you been with the Singapore Police Force?
22 years
2. How do you feel after winning the Service Idol Champion?
It feels great to be the first ever ‘Service Idol’. I’m still waiting for the recording offers!
3. Has winning the Service Idol Competition changed you in any way?
It has made me more aware about service and what I can do to improve the service that I provide to my customers, internal and external.
4. What does Service mean to you?
Service means doing the best work that you can for the other person.
5. How did you come up with the lyrics for the song?
The lyrics came naturally as I re-lived my past experiences, including experiences from my friends that touched my heart as to what it feels like to be a Police Officer in Singapore in the 21st Century.
6. How do you think the SPF can maintain its current level of Service, and in what ways can it improve?
To sustain the service mindset, each individual officer must play their part to provide the best service they can. To improve, each officer must practise empathy so that they will think about what sort of service they would want if they were in the shoes of the members of public; put aside minor inconveniences to go the extra mile and stay POSITIVE!
7. Being both the Service Idol Champion and DOC Training in ‘G’ Division, what advice would you give to the officers in the SPF about their service role?
We should always be ready to serve in the best possible manner. To do that, we must be knowledgeable in our duties, sure in our decisions and committed to the cause. We should always remind ourselves of our Shared Vision when we assert that 'We care for and serve the community that we work in and with.' Each of us has a role - a BIG role - to serve the community with the highest level of service, commitment and confidence so that our community will support our efforts, initiatives and directions as we work together to ensure the safety and security of our nation. |
