| Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Amri Bin Amin began his professional music career as a flautist in the Singapore Police Force Band in 1981. His potential was soon discovered and he became the band leader for the Police Combo Band in 1986. His talent has won him many music awards locally.
In 1991, DSP Amri was appointed the Assistant Director of Music for the Singapore Police Force band. He was awarded the Singapore Public Service Commission scholarship to study at Kneller Hall, Royal Military School of Music, United Kingdom in 1993 and received his Bachelor of Arts (Music) from Kingston University in 1996.
His flair in music arrangement and composition won him several prizes when he was in the United Kingdom . Some of the awards include The Somerville Award for best original composition of a suite, The Tomlinson Award for best arrangement of a selection of popular music, The Commandant Award for best original composition of a quick march and also the award for being the best overseas student.
DSP Amri was appointed Director of Music of the Singapore Police Force Band on 1 st May 2004 and in the same year led the band in the 50 hours music marathon in conjunction with the President's Challenge. Early this year, he had the honour to lead the Women Police Pipes and Drums, the SPF Quintet and the Gurkha Contingent Pipes and Drums Platoon to the largest tattoo display in Germany , the Musikschau the Nationen. And in April he led the SPF Band to the World Police Band Concert in Japan.
Being an experienced and distinguished musician, he is often invited to participate and adjudicate in music events. Under his leadership, the SPF Band sets forward to greet the new millennium with a vision to break new waves in music expressions. |
