Sulaiman received his Honours Degree from Kneller Hall, Royal Military
School of Music, in the United Kingdom in 2004. His major areas of study
were saxophone, conducting, history & music analysis, aural perception, orchestration and compositional techniques. In addition to playing the saxophone, he is also an accomplished guitarist, pianist and vocalist.

With the encouragement from his family, he started playing the guitar and the saxophone at the age of 9 and 13 respectively. Sulaiman decided on a career as a professional musician in the Singapore Police Force Band after serving 2 1/2 years as a National Servicemen in 1994. He served as leader for various ensembles in the SPF Band and has shown an outstanding ability. He has won in song writing competitions organized both in Singapore and in Asia. Whilst attending the Bandmaster course in Kneller Hall, United Kingdom, he won the Somerville Award for the best original composition for Wind Band.
