Crime Prevention Advisory against Theft in Public Places4

  1. When travelling in a crowded place, be wary of anyone bumping into you;
  2. Check your valuables when it happens;
  3. Avoid exposing cash, valuables or jewellery in public areas;
  4. Never leave your valuables unattended, especially at places such as swimming pools, eating places, retail outlets, supermarkets and educational institutions;
  5. Make use of lockers provided where possible;
  6. Get a trusted friend or colleague to watch over your belongings if need be; and
  7. Call the Police immediately if you see anyone/anything suspicious

Crime Prevention Advisory against Shop Theft

  1. Ensure a good line of sight for displays by using an appropriate layout in the shop premise;
  2. Do not overcrowd the aisle with displays;
  3. Clearly define the entry and exit points;
  4. Ensure sufficient deployment of uniformed security personnel and staff to regulate crowd movement as well as to project greater presence;
  5. Advise all staff to be observant and vigilant for customers behaving suspiciously;
  6. Enhance the store’s security system by installing CCTVs and convex mirrors. Use an electronic tagging system and display advisory signages;
  7. Have regular announcements over the public address system to advise shoppers to look after their belongings and to be wary of pickpockets.
