Introduction

The overall crime situation in Singapore remains under control for 2009 , with the number of overall crime cases recording a marginal increase of 0.2% as compared to the previous year. Three of the six crime classes1 recorded increases in 2009 vis-à-vis last year, with significant increases noted for Theft and Related Crimes (+527 cases or +3%) and Housebreaking and Related Crimes (+127 cases or +14%).


1 Crime classes refer to the six classes of Crimes Against Persons, Violent Property Crimes, Housebreaking and Related Crimes, Theft and Related Crimes, Commercial Crimes and Miscellaneous Crimes.
