Vulnerability of Motorcyclists and Pillion Riders

4      Motorcyclists and pillion riders continue to be the most vulnerable group of road users, making up 54.9% of all fatalities in 2005 as compared to 49.2% in 2004.

5      There was a general decrease in the number of drink-driving related fatal and injury accidents in 2005.

6      The number of persons killed in drink-driving related accidents decreased from 33 to 19. The number of persons injured decreased from 244 in 2004 to 223 in 2005, of which 8 suffered serious injuries.

7      The number of persons involved in accidents who were arrested for drink-driving has also gone up by 10.7%.

Speeding

8      While there was an overall drop in the number of speed related accidents from 1,513 in 2004 to 1,443 cases to 2005, the number of speed-related fatal accidents had increased by 3 cases in 2005 as compared to 2004.
