Speeding

There was an overall increase in the number of speed-related accidents, from 1,445 to 1,657 cases in 2006, with the number of speed-related fatal accidents increasing by 15 cases, from 51 to 66. More than 1 in 3 of all fatal accidents were speed related.

Drink-Driving

There was an increase in the number of drink-driving related fatal and injury accidents in 2006.

The number of persons killed in drink-driving related accidents also increased from 20 to 25. Similarly, the number of persons injured in such accidents increased from 223 to 336 in 2006. Of these, 10 suffered serious injuries.

Vulnerability of Motorcyclists and Pillion Riders

Motorcyclists and pillion riders continue to be the most vulnerable group of road users, accounting for 53.1% of all fatalities in 2006 as compared to 54.9% in 2005.
