OVERVIEW

2006 saw an increase in the total number of injury and fatal accidents. There were also more people injured and killed on our roads.

The vehicle population in Singapore rose, in mid-year, from 742156 to 776571 in 2006. Taking into consideration the rise in vehicle population, the number of fatal accidents per 10,000 vehicles in 2006 was 2.34, a slight increase from 2.31 in 2005. This is still lower than the 2.5 fatal accidents per 10, 000 vehicles in 2004.

The number of fatal accidents increased from 172 cases to 182 cases in 2006. The number of serious injury accidents1 increased from 71 to 94 cases in 2006. The number of slight injury accidents has also increased from 6,463 cases to 7,223 cases in 2006.
