Introduction

The road fatality rate per 100,000 human population registered an improvement of 1.5% in 2008 compared to 2007. Nonetheless, Police would like to highlight three main areas of concern:

a)

Motorcyclists and pillion riders remain the most vulnerable group of road users;

b)

Elderly pedestrians account for almost half of pedestrian deaths; and

c)

Drink driving remains a concern even though drink-driving related accidents registered a decrease in 2008.
